Terps Baseball vs. Hofstra

Thanks for joining me to follow the baseball game while we have softball on the air.

Durakis led off the bottom of the 5th with a strikeout. His single back in the 3rd inning extended his personal hitting streak to 8 games.

Murphy popped up to shortstop for the second out of the fifth....2 outs on the innnig.

Spessard steps up, hes got a double to his name today.  He takes Panzarella deep into the count, but gets K'd looking....3 up, 3 down in the bottom of the fifth.

3-2 Terps after 5 complete.
Elliott Hagburg leads off the 6th for the Pride...kind of an ironic name for the Hofstra team today as that's all they're playing for...trying not to get swept out of College Park.  Unfortunately for them, predictions say it'll be this way all year long.
Hagburg put a force into one, lining the 3-2 hard down the left field line, but foul.  Apparantly he found his swing though, because he roped the next pitch into centerfield for a single.
That brings Anthony Sarno to the plate, clearly the most all-around player for the Pride.  He pitches, hits, plays the outfield, and does most of it well.  He strugged pitching on Friday, going only 2.2 innings, but that seems to be the story for this Hofstra team.  They can hit and don't make a whole lot of errors, but it's tough to win when they give up 16, 14, and 13 runs in their first three games.
Single for Sarno moves Hagburg to 2nd...2 on, nobody out.
Tom Legregni stepping up now, he's 0-2 today.  Bad bunt by Legregni right back to Pupa, but a better play by the Junior as he barehanded the ball and threw to third for the out...2 on, first and second, with one out now.
Dion Pouncil drives the first pitch he sees to centerfield, where Jowers makes the catch and almost doubles Sarno up at second base.
2 outs and now we have a pinch hitter--Matt Kougasian (Koo-gay-zian).  He went 0-3 in the second half out yesterday's double header.
Coach Farr visits with Durakis and Pupa and makes a change, bringing in Adam Kolarek.
Pupa's day is done:  5.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2Ks and 1 HBP.  He put the Terps in the position to win and that's what matters.

Kolarek comes in, he's seen action in 2 games this season...5.6 ERA.  he walks the first batter he sees, which has to frustrate the whole coaching staff...Now things get dicey, bases loaded 2 outs Terps clinging to a one-run lead.

Full count, two outs, bases loaded..everybody is moving.  Especially with a one run lead, this gets real exciting.

Base hit is gonna score two runs, Hofstra takes teh 4-3 lead.  Miserable for the Terps, Kolarek just ruined a great day for Pupa, and in return, his day is done as well.  Talk about not doing your job.  Line on Kolarek:

0 + IP, 1 H, 0 R, (but he gave up 2), 1 BB...He's in line for a loss.  Change Pupa's line to 4 runs instead of 2, 3 of which were earned.

First batter against Taylor, Chris Mentrasti performs the hit and run to perfection.  Cole took off for 2nd, Murphy went to cover and the ball rolled through the holecreated.

Stuckless grounds out to Braun to end the inning, but the damage was done.  3 runs on 4 hits leaving 2 on....

5-3 after 5 and a half.
